Something breaks… and we rush to fix or hide it or discard it. But what if the break is the beginning?

Join me for an immersive art therapy workshop based on the ancient Japanese practice of Kintsugi, repairing

broken pottery with gold, and the philosophy of Wabi-Sabi teaching us to embrace the imperfect nature of life.

Broken Bowl ® is a experiential workshop inspired by wabi-sabi (侘び寂び) Noun, Adjective An aesthetic

or world view characterized by finding beauty in imperfection, impermanence, or simplicity. Also: a style or

quality reflecting this aesthetic.kintsugi (金継ぎ, "golden joinery") Noun The Japanese art of repairing broken pottery by mending the areas of breakage with urushi lacquer dusted or mixed with powdered gold, silver,

or platinum. As a philosophy, it treats breakage and repair as part of the history of an object, rather than something to disguise.

This is not just a workshop. It’s a process that invites in transformation.

This safe space will be held for 8 women to explore how you move forward when parts feel broken —with intention, with meaning, with strength. Together, we’ll explore resilience, integration, and the quiet power of transformation.

2026 SEDONA RETREATS

Courage To Mend: A Healing Expressive Retreat for Women

August 28–30, 2026 | Sedona, Arizona
Limited to 8 women

Meet Your Retreat Guides

Held in the spirit of the Sedona landscape—grounding, expansive, and deeply restorative—this retreat is guided by licensed psychotherapists with extensive experience in trauma-informed care and group facilitation. We create a safe and supported container for emotional healing, integration, and transformation, blending clinical expertise with mindful, present-centered practice.

Sedona Sunset with Sun Burst.jpg

In the magical red rock landscape of Sedona, Arizona, you are invited into a weekend of reflection, healing, and reconnection. This is a small, immersive retreat designed for women who are ready to unwind and decompress, mindfully reflect, and connect with their authentic and honest selves.

Courage To Mend is inspired by Therapeutic Concept of Broken Bowl ® – Created by Christina Brennar in 2012 supported by the Japanese art of Kintsugi, where broken pottery is repaired with gold and Wabi-Sabi by embracing the perfectly imperfect parts of ourselves. What is cracked is not hidden here. It is witnessed, honored, and integrated into something whole.

This is not about fixing yourself. It is about remembering your true self.

The Broken Bowl Experience

At the center of this retreat is the Broken Bowl ®process, a therapeutic and experiential method exploring attachment, letting go,  integration, and restoration.

Participants are guided through a step-by-step creative process that mirrors the emotional journey from separation to meaning-making and wholeness. This workshop is designed to support participants in understanding resilience not as something to “build,” but something that already exists within lived experience. This experience may bring forward strong emotions connected to loss, memory, or change. The space is held within a carefully supported, trauma-informed group container, facilitated by a Licensed Psychotherapist that prioritizes emotional safety and presence.

Participants are asked to bring a journal for reflection throughout the day.

The Phases of the Experience

The Broken Bowl process begins with attachment. Participants receive a ceramic white bowl / vessel and begin forming a personal connection with it. The object is no longer neutral—it becomes meaningful. This connection gently shifts participants out of analysis and into emotional and symbolic experience.

Some people feel an immediate connection. Others feel distance, resistance, or neutrality. All responses are welcome. Participants are invited to observe their internal reactions without judgment and record them in their journal throughout the process. This phase is essential. It builds trust, presence, and emotional openness within the group, and creates the foundation for deeper work.

As the process unfolds, participants move through rupture - (breaking the bowl),  expression (decorating the bowl)  repair (places broken pieces together) , and integration (mending with gold). Each stage reflects a part of the human experience—loss, disruption, meaning-making, and renewal.

“Nothing we see or hear is perfect. But right there in the imperfection is perfect reality.”
— Shunryu Suzuki
